For convenience, here are links to all five parts of the three lectures (some of the files are very large so I split them up) and associated audio and slides files from the short course on “Philosophy of Science and Its Relevance to Research Design” I am teaching at the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA) in October 2021.

This is the video file version — audio over slides — of lecture 3. Once again, huge file, so I split it into two halves; part one, and links to slides-only and audio-only versions, are here.

If you want just the slides or just the audio of the whole lecture, here are those links:

This is the video file version — audio over slides — of lecture 2. It was such a large file for some reason that I had to split it into two halves! Part one, and the audio-only and slides-only links, are here.

Knowing and the Known 2020

March 20th, 2020 | Posted by ptj in ProfPTJ - (0 Comments)

I was privileged to give a morning lecture course on the philosophy of science at the 2020 European Consortium on Political Research’s Winter School in Methods and Techniques. (I was also pleased to win the Cora Maas Teaching Award this year!) The lectures were delivered between 17 and 21 February 2020. I’m putting audio recordings of the individual daily lectures and PDFs of the lecture slides up as individual posts, but this post will be a central location for links to all of them.

Lecture 6: conclusion

Since I didn’t have time to deliver the punchline live in the lecture hall, I recorded this supplemental lecture in my hotel room that afternoon to wrap up the series. No additional slides for this one; I’m speaking to the last several slides of lecture 5 in this conclusion.

Audio and slides from the fifth lecture in the series, delivered 21 February 2020 in Bamberg, Germany. Note that I don’t make it quite all the way through the slides today…I conclude the series with a bonus sixth episode.

Slides: here.

Audio and slides from the fourth lecture in the series, delivered 20 February 2020 in Bamberg, Germany. Note that I start by finishing up the slides from yesterday, and then don’t make it quite all the way through the slides today…I finish this batch up tomorrow.

Slides: here.
